Not Cool

Daily Kos sent me this petition to sign. I thought I would share it with you. To sum it up, the USDA currently inspects chickens for mistreatment within factory farms. Now the USDA is considering not bothering to do these inspections anymore (so chickens can be treated at the discretion of the workers). Not to be gruesome but there is much footage caught on hidden camera of chicken abuse and chickens being stomped to death by the people who are suppose to be taking care of them. The idea of lifting the already lenient supervision on these farms makes me really upset. Please take a second to sign the petition to the USDA “opposing the privatization of poultry inspection.”

“Here’s the story. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) currently inspects all chicken and turkey carcasses for things like bruises, bile and feces before they are sent to further processing. However, the UDSA is now considering a pilot program that would eliminate that inspection and allow poultry processing plants to do whatever they want.

From now until April 26, the USDA is holding a public comment period on whether to go forward with this pilot program. During this comment period, we plan to submit tens of thousands of comments in opposition. Already, over 40,000 members of the Daily Kos community have signed our petition to the USDA, and allied organizations will add even more.

Please add your name to our petition opposing the privatization of poultry inspection. If enough of us say no, then we can prevent the world from getting a little crappier (literally).

Keep fighting,
Chris Bowers, Daily Kos”

If this bothers you, please take 30 seconds out of your day to sign it. I did.

Thanks,

Hayley
